If you are staying at Maremar, Marona or Marblava, just pop down to Sant Feliu de Guixols centre in the morning to select your goodies for breakfast
Pastisseria Girones
Pastisseria Girones is well liked by Catalans due to its authenticity. It is just up the street to the left of the indoor market on the right – more or less opposite the wine shop. The best Catalan bread we have found is “pa de Santa Cristina” which you can also get here.
La Vienesa
La Vienesa (on the Rambla) is a more sophisticated (but maybe less authentic?) place, specialising in Viennese style confections. It is very good if you are entertaining or want to take something home as a gift.
They also sell lovely china nick nacks to hold chocolates, cups, saucers etc (including some great tea cups with integral strainers for proper leaf tea or tisanes).
The have a lot of wedding paraphernalia too – the china gifts that the happy couple will give to key guests at their reception.
You can also take tea, coffee or maybe a lush hot chocolate there, sitting outside on the Rambla.
One of La Vienesa’s great triumphs is their Flocs de Sant Josep. These are crisp little chocolate biscuits with just the right amount of cocoa and a smattering of chopped nuts. They are delicious! Their petit fours are also very good as are their chocolates.
Guests have also recommended Can Crisant – “a bakery which is not as flashy as El Girones, but they also have some tempting things. Their Empanada Galega is excellent. The place seems to be frequented by locals mostly.” We will try to get a picture when we next visit.
