In Girona you can get your Christmas shopping off to a great start by visiting the craft fair which takes place there every Saturday from 1 September to 11 December and goes on from 09.00 until 20.00.
There are lots of different stalls to explore along with Girona itself which is well worth a day’s visit.
The Fair takes place in Carrer Santa Clara, along the Pont de Pedra (the stone bridge between the old and new towns).
From October until just before Christmas we have the “Norway lobster” (crayfish or “escamarlan” in Catalan) festival in Palamos – yummy!
Various restaurants will be taking part and offering their take on this popular Catalan dish…
From the last week in October to very early November we have the Sant Narcis Fairs and Festival in Girona. A lot of the action takes place in Parc de Devesa, but events also take place across the city.
For a week, the city of Girona fills with festive activities for all tastes: sardanes (Catalan National Dances), theatre, concerts, markets, etc.
Worthy of note are the drawing fair, the antiques and the food fair which is usually held on All Saints’ Day.
For the entire period, there is an artisan food market in the Placa de la Independencia and a craft market on the main bridge as you enter the old town.
Santa Coloma de Farners is about 40 minutes from Sant Feliu de Guixols. In the second weekend of November, they usually have a Ratafia market and competition which should be a lot of fun!
Ratafia is a very popular local drink which people tend to fall in love with very quickly. It is made from walnuts. Delicious!

In Peralada on the second weekend in November there is an Autumn festival to honour the feast of Sant Martí. Throughout the weekend there will be be traditional dancing, music and entertainment in various locations across the town. Combine this with a trip to the Roman site at Empuries…
The Sant Martiria Fair in
Banyoles (which is about an hour’s drive from Sant Feliu de Guixols) takes place from on about the third weekend in November (usually 10.00 until 20.00).
It is actually an agricultural fair, with horse competitions and displays, chicken exhibitions (!!), antique tractors and farm equipment etc…
It is located at the Draga Park and Sports Arena. There is no entry fee.
And finally, if you fancy a bit of a “tapas crawl” in
Sant Feliu de Guixols itself, have a look at “Ganxotapes tardor”. Best to get the brochures from the information centre at the Monastery or in a shop as there are quite hard to read on the web.
Basically, there are about 25 participating establishments, each of which will have a special “Tapa Ganxona” with a small beer for €2.50. They are competing to win the prize for the best tapa, so they should be good!
Tapas include – artichokes with ham and Romesco sauce, a ‘little parcel’ of sauteed mushrooms and ham, galician pig’s ear (don’t knock it until you have tried it!) and other such fine delicacies.
The event takes place throughout Sant Feliu de Guixols, although mostly centred around the area just back from the beach. It runs from 19 October until 24 November.
