The Costa Brava was Dali’s home – come and see it as he did…
There are three fantastic houses relating to Dali. We have put them in the order in which we like them most…
Port Lligat – Dali’s main, spiritual and painterly home on the Costa Brava
Dali’s real house(s), is in Port Lligat/Cadaques. We think it is the best, most evocative of the three Dali locations. There is a real feel for the personalities who lived and worked there.
Originally three fishermen’s cottages, the house is on different levels with some interesting external areas too…
It is essential to book well in advance for this as they have strict controls over how many people can go in and at what times. This is particularly important in the summer months. Here is the website for Dal’s house in Port Lligat, Cadaques…
Directions to Dali’s house from our rental properties in Sant Feliu de Guixols (it takes about about an hour and a half from Maremar, Marona and Marblava)
Pubol – site of Gala Dali’s “Castle”, which he had to make an appointment to visit!
Gala’s “castle” is in Pubol which is a lot closer and is also well worth a visit.
Apart from the strange things Dali made, there are (well, was last time we were there in September 2013), a lot of Gala’s evening dresses – fantastic!
The elephants shown above are in the gardens. Do hang around for a while and you will see them perform!!
The website for Gala’s house in Pubol is here. And click here for directions from our holiday rentals in Sant Feliu de Guixols (it takes about 50 minutes to get there from Maremar, Marona and Marblava).
The Dali Museum in Figueres
The final location is the Dali museum in Figueres where you can see a lot of Dali’s works, both from his youth and as he matured. We have shown photos of the crowds so that you are under no illusion!
If you do not book in advance, you may have to endure long queues (possibly in the heat). One thing we have noticed is that there is a lull between about 13.00 and 15.00 which is when the tour bus groups go for their lunch. Try then.
Check out the Dali museum Figueres website… And directions from our holiday rentals in Sant Feliu de Guixols are here (it takes about an hour from Maremar, Marona and Marblava).
Last time we did these visits, we visited the Museum in the morning, had a light lunch, and then went to Port Lligat for about 16.00 when the light was perfect! We visited Pubol on a different day and, if we had not been tired, would have combined it with a visit to Empuries or something like that. Make a day of it!
