Many serious cyclists come to Catalunya/the Costa Brava to train so, if you are looking for a challenge, you can find one here!
Baix Empordà district has an extensive network of rural paths far from the main roads and suitable for travel by bicycle. Taking advantage of these paths and local roads, the District Council has created a cycletouring network whose perfect signposting means that the district’s landscapes can be admired peacefully and each of the heritage assets they lead to known. Most of the network runs across the plain, though there are links by path and road to the coastal zones of the Aro Valley and the Palafrugell corridor.
The cycletouring network (250 km) allows each cyclist to draw up their own route by forming connections between the various signposted paths and roads. By clicking here, you will find basic information to help you map out your route from Sant Feliu de Guixols. For anyone more adventurous, these cycle routes may be a little more challenging – in the foothills of Les Gavarres…
From Sant Feliu de Guixols – centre d’interpretació de les Vies Verdes (Tinglado)
This centre acts as a font of all knowledge for the Via Verda, (literally translated as “green way” – it refers to disused railways that are now used as trails for walking and cycling).
It has bicycle hire, a cafè and a permanent exhibition of the old railway which connected Sant Feliu de Guixols and Girona. Visitors can see a locomotive and two wagons from the XIX century, as well as other artefacts and videoclips from this old railway.

Bicycle hire Sant Feliu de Guixols
Catalunya, indeed Spain too is mad about mountain biking and indeed cycling in general. There is a really good mix of terrain around Sant Feliu almost for any ability (except perhaps the pretty unfit which includes us).
There are two bike rental shops in Sant Feliu:
The cycle hire shop near the port in Sant Feliu de Guixols, Ayats Cycles based at 164 Carretera de Palamos. Telephone 972 821 537. They have three types of bikes for adults – Road, Mountain and Hybrid. They also have other stuff available such as kids’ bikes, electric bikes, child seats, gel seats etc etc.
On the other side of Sant Feliu de Guixols, we have another great cycle hire shop, Dojo Sant Feliu based on the Rambla Joan Bordas (no 32), just off the Carretera de Girona by the Esclat supermarket. Telephone 972 32 11 46 or 647 06 42 86.
In Girona there is also a very impressive shop right by the train/bus station called CicloTurisme Telephone 972 22 10 47. They seem quite large and well kitted out/organised. They have touring bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes, children’s bikes of varying sizes plus accessories. Girona is about 35km from Sant Feliu. If you are interested we can see if they are geared up to deliver bikes.
