Feasts, festivities, music, sun – here comes Summer in Sant Feliu de Guixols!
In the slider above you will catch a glimpse of some of the many special events and experiences available to you in Summer.
Please also have a look on our May and June (click here) page as we don’t want to repeat too much…
The biggest event in Sant Feliu in Summer is the Festa Major which lasts about a week with 1 August (which is the actual feast day) at its centre. Expect all sorts of fun and games, fun fairs, fireworks and the rest of it!
Finding out about what’s on in Sant Feliu de Guixols…
When you are in Sant Feliu, go to the seaside end of the Rambla and stand with your back to it (facing the sea) You will see an electronic display board which will tell you (in Catalan!) what’s on in Sant Feliu de Guixols over the next few weeks. If you need help translating something that looks really good, put the gist of it in an email and we will translate! Or, if you are Web enabled (!!), go to the babylon translation website on the web…
We picked up this brochure from the information centre at the Monastery.
Havaneres are Catalan (and Castillian) sea shanties, which were sung by sailors on their way to the Americas and elsewhere.
This leaflet tells us of concerts of Havaneres going on in Sant Feliu in the Summer in (some of June), July and August (and some of September).
Don’t forget, if you are going to the sea shanties, you need to take a white hanky so you can wave it about a bit!
Some are free concerts and other come with dinner at a local restaurant…
In summertime we have our own music festival in Sant Feliu called “Porta Ferrada International Festival”. There are lots of acts of different kinds – usually something for everyone. Click here for the latest link to Porta Ferrada.
Take the little tourist train around the coastline of Sant Feliu de Guixols
The little tourist train, or “little yellow train” as we call it (because it was that colour when we first saw it, is now green since 2013. It starts at the Platja Sant Pol (well worth a visit for a swim and/or for lunch), goes straight through and stops in the middle of the Sant Feliu town coastline, just opposite the Rambla and then goes on to the wonderful Ermita de Sant Elm. It then turns round and does the same in reverse!
In high season it even goes past Maremar and , if you are lucky, you can get the driver to stop for you!
Check out the website for the little train here. The website is by the suppliers for people who want to rent them, but it’s still a bit of fun!
It’s really good fun for children of every age. The only similarly spectacular way to see the coastline is by boat. Give it a go!
