Up the coast – Platja Sant Pol

Platja Sant Pol, Sant Feliu de GuixolsPlatja Sant Pol coastal walkThe Platja Sant Pol is the second sandy beach (with finer sand apparently) of Sant Feliu de Guixols. It is very nice indeed and this area is said to be the Riviera of the Costa Brava – full of chic French holidaymakers!

It is pretty close to Marona but not much further for anyone staying in Sant Feliu de Guixols. Just follow the coast with the sea on your right and you will find it!

There is a beautiful walk along the headland, part of the Cami de Ronda, which we enjoy very much (the pink balloon), going past the Sant Pol sand dunes which they make a lot of! We have marked our favourite restaurant the Maria Rosa (pale blue balloon) too.

Exploring further down the coast

If you are coming from Marona or Marblava, now follow the coastline in Sant Feliu de Guixols with the sea to your left. Go left up the hill at the mini roundabout and follow the signs to the Ermita de Sant Elm. When you get to a sign indicating that it is to your left, you can go there or carry on towards and past  Maremar from where you can find many lovely coves.

Ermita de Sant Elm

Ermita de Sant Elm Sant Feliu de GuixolsQuite close to Sant Feliu, you see the sign to the left (coming up)/right (going down from Maremar) for the Ermita de Sant Elm. This is the blue cross on the map.

Esculls de Rocacorb/Cala Vigatà otherwise known as the “Maremar cove”

The easier route……
Esculls de Rpcacorb, Sant Feliu de Guixols, Costa BravaEsculls de Rpcacorb, Sant Feliu de Guixols, Costa BravaYou will see signs to Esculls de Rocacorb as you climb/descend along the coast from/to Sant Feliu de Guixols. This is the yellow balloon on the map.

The route for the brave hearted (!)
Just before Maremar (literally a few paces down towards Sant Feliu de Guixols from there), left (if you are coming up)/right (if you are going down), you will come to a pathway down to a cove (there used to be a sign warning of rock falls but we cannot see it on Google at the moment). This is the green balloon on the map. You can follow the path down and at first it is very easy. The views are truly beautiful! Then the path becomes more difficult and parts of the wall have crumbled away. Then you get to some stone steps which are ok but, again, the wall has crumbled so it is not good for people who do not like heights! Finally you have to scramble across the rocks.
If you go there, do take a small snack and your snorkelling gear (there are a few pairs of goggles and snorkels at Maremar (if they have not been taken by someone), but they are very cheap if you need to buy any). If you do not like rocks, take some shoes to swim in too (although we do not). The only thing to remember is that, what you have carried down (easy) you have to carry up again (harder).

Cala Canyet

Carrying on past Maremar towards Tossa de Mar, there are many beautiful coves to discover and explore. One particularly beautiful cove that some of our guests have really loved called Cala Canyet at Canyet. It is a short drive further on from Maremar. This is shown as the purple balloon on the map.

Cala Canyet, Sant Feliu de Guixols, Costa BravaCala Canyet, Sant Feliu de Guixols, Costa Brava“Both sharing the name “Canyet”, there is a cove and a beach separated by a few metres.

You can reach them by taking the road from Sant Feliu de Guixols to Tossa.

The cove offers a small sandy area which is at the end of an unusual, long corridor formed by the rocks. A path with good views separates the cove from the beach. There is a small pier at one end and an area of reef at the other which is worth visiting along the footbridge that has been built there.

During the tourist season you’ll need to pay to be able to park near the water. The alternative is walking up to a kilometre. There is a restaurant serving the area.”

The Town Hall have produced some information on some of these and other coves that you can visit. Click here to go to access a pdf guide on coves that you can visit near Sant Feliu de Guixols…
