So many restaurants in Sant Feliu de Guixols, so little time!

On this page we work our way from the east to the west (give or take) of Sant Feliu de Guixols, introducing you to more everyday restaurants. For some tips on finer dining in Sant Feliu de Guixols, click here.

La Proa (the Prow) and Els Mariners (the Mariners)

Click on the gallery to get bigger pictures and more information. Apologies for the lack of photos of food!

The not so pretty block of apartments at the east end of the bay in Sant Feliu has two good things going for it and they are the two restaurants that are on its ground floor. They  are mariners’ hangouts down by the fishing ports. The fish is as fresh as can be.

They do great fish of course and also a few things that kids will like.

They are both open early in the mornings but the kitchens do not open until later. La Proa’s kitchen is open from 12.00 til 23.00 so that’s worth remembering.

If you are coming from our apartment, Marona, to get there, you can go down the hill to the stop sign and turn left and you will see the two restaurants on your left and the fishing port to your right. Or you can start down the hill until you come to a flight of stairs on your right. Go down the stairs and turn left. You are now near the fishing port and the Club Nautic. If you go right, you will see the two restaurants on your right.

El Corsari

El Corsari is at the far (east) end of the Passeig along the beach and is opposite the Marina. We love it for impromptu tapas and cold beer. Some people find it a bit rough, but we find it an authentic experience as this is were locals and fishermen come.

We have had very good reports, especially about their calamares! We have had prawns (gambes), baby clams (tallerinas) and Jabugo ham (pernil de Jabugo) there and it was very fine.

They do a mixture of things that should satisfy a family with varying tastes. And then you can go for a stroll down the sea front or up the Rambla and get a delicious Catalan ice cream for dessert.

El Casino

El Casino in Sant Feliu de Guixols, Costa Brava The “Casino” is basically a place to go, drink wine and play dominos etc! But is is the perfect place for people watching to see a real slice of Catalan life.

The tapas, wine and beer are excellent and it has lots of space.

Marabu

The Marabu (on the passeig del Mar) is a lovely little restaurant and perfect for culinary explorers because they have pictures of many of the dishes so you can pick what you like the look of even if you don’t know exactly what it is!

If in season, try the artichokes (carxofes (“carchofas”)) a la brasa or the young garlic omlette (all tendre (“ay tendra”)).

They have a covered area as well as an open air section.

Pizza Xus (Chus)

Pizza Xus is on a small square at the end of Carrer Verdaguer, on the right going up the Rambla. We have been told by locals that it is very good value and liked by kids.

La Gaviota

La Gaviota is on the Rambla, on the left as you go up it. It is another recommendation from local friends for families with kids.

They do a special kids’ menu too.

Rostisseria Cuina de la Marina

Rostisseria La Cuina de la Marina in Sant Feliu de Guixols, Costa Brava Rostisseria La Cuina de la Marina in Sant Feliu de Guixols, Costa BravaThis little rotisserie place always looks good – probably because we love roast and rotisseried chicken!

All their dishes are laid out in a counter so you can look and point!

It is in Carrer/Calle Sant Joan.

Gabia dels Mussols

Gabia dels Mussols is on the beach at the Market end of the strip. It is fabulous to sit there with a cava or a cold beer and a few tapas, watching the world go by. it is particularly good for parents who would like a refreshment whilst watching their children build their sand castles!

Other places

A friend has recently told us about Can Segura, up one of the streets parallel to the Rambla (Carrer Sant Pere). They say that the food is excellent and prices reasonable – they go there quite often.

We have eaten in Can Buixó a number of times and never been disappointed. The seafood soup and stews are lovely, but they do a wide variety of scrummy things. Don’t be put off by the slightly dark entrance, it is a very friendly place.

Snacks and refreshments

We are lacking in photos of restaurants and snacking venues, but needless to say there are so many of them that you will be spoilt for choice! Here are a few…

Just walk along the Passeig del Mar and you will see a whole array of beautiful restaurants in fabulous surroundings. Look at their “pica pica” menus and have a chill.
