Sant Feliu de Guixols is rich in fabulous restaurants – here are some of the “finer” ones near our holiday rentals…
On this page we introduce you to some of our favourite places to go for more than an everyday meal… If you click on the first picture of each gallery you will see a small slide show for each restaurant.
Club Nautic
Club Nautic is at the East end of the Sant Feliu sea front. Keeping right. You will find yourselves in the fishing port and, going past two very typical Mariners’ restaurants (La Proa (the Prow) and Els Mariners (the Mariners)) on your left, you will see it lit up (assuming it is evening!) on your right.
As you would expect, the food is predominantly fresh fish and seafood, with an haute cuisine slant – the carpaccio of gamba is beautiful for example…
The views across the marina are stunning, both by day and by night. A real treat.
Just in case, especially for Friday and Saturday and if it is warm, ask for a table on the terrassa. Sometimes they even do music with dinner… Enjoy!
Sa Marinada
Sa Marinada is in the old Nautical Club (don’t ask, we have no idea!). It is in a beautiful setting with tables on a large semi-enclosed terrace with trees, rocks etc and a stunning view across the bay.
It specialises in the freshest fish and seafood, keeping many of its offerings in tanks to ensure freshness. Just as with the new Club Nautic (above), you can enjoy al-fresco dining and the views are spectacular.
The food is largely of the sea and includes some special fare such as oysters, various types of crab, scores of types shellfish and fresh fish. Relatively expensive, it is still worth a visit.
Eldorado Mar
Eldorado Mar is also very fine, with panoramic views across the harbour, and serves probably the best gambas de Palamos you will taste (with a price tag reflecting their worth).
They specialise in rices and fideua (vermicelli pasta) and fish “a la sal” which is fish baked in a salt crust which keeps it really moist and not salty at all. If you like baked fish with potatoes, onions and tomatoes go for anything “a l’antiga” and you will get just that! They have a good menu del dia (of the day) and also good stuff for kids. If the month has an “r” in it and the sea conditions are good, you can sample the spiky sea urchins (ericos – “erisoos”).
El Ginjoler
El Ginjoler is a really fine restaurant in the old cloisters (in summer) and refectory of the Monastery.
The food is all very locally based and has some really interesting tweaks. The wine list is also very strong on very local wines.
Eating here in summer is a fantastic experience.
Maria Rosa
We were first introduced to Maria Rosa by the man who built Maremar for us. We have been going back ever since and nine times out of 10 they can probably guess what we are going to order!
The key to cooking fish and seafood perfectly is not to mess with it. And Maria Rosa know exactly what they are doing in this respect. Come and have a look…
Maria Rosa is in Platja Sant Pol and is probably the restaurant we visit most frequently (we don’t eat out that often really). On the other side of the road (which leads directly to Sant Feliu centre) is the beach!
You can sit outside (if you book early enough or are lucky), watch the sea lapping the shore and eat a fine array of fish. We have even eaten outside in March and October!
They specialise in rice (paella or the fabulous arros negre). But their fish is absolutely perfect and they are also pretty child friendly foodwise. We always go for the Turbot (although quite pricey) and the baby squid with artichoke. The tomato, onion and tuna (tinned) salad is very fine and we also like their grilled vegetables.
Any of the rices are good as are the fideua – like a Paella but with vermicelli pasta instead of rice.
Finally they have some great puds. We especially like the Valenciana which is a glass of orange juice with cointreau and a dollop of vanilla ice cream!
Their phone number is 972 32 51 33. For the website of Restaurant Maria Rosa, in Platja Sant Pol, Sant Feliu de Guixols, click here.
Els Tinars
Els Tinars is aiming for high things (it already has a Michelin star). It is not really our cup of tea (we think it’s a bit over engineered) but it’s great for a romantic or posh dinner. Have a further look at Els Tinars by clicking here… Apologies for the small pictures…
